Ok you don't really choose at first but as you work your way through the book a second time you can figure it out. This is a well written grown up version of the old pick a path and CYOA books we had as kids. Ebooks are perfect for the genre. Great for curling up over the couch or maybe a group read as you get out in a road trip. Nice.
I was a big fan of the author's first two books, but he really has outdone himself with this latest venture. The story lines are so expertly woven together, part of the fun is going through and seeing how the events unfold from the different perspectives, both "good" and "evil." The big "extra" in this version of the CYP gamebooks is that the story lines actually interact with each other, which must have been a real trick to keep straight.
So, technically impressive to write, and even more fun to read! Can't wait for the next one of these.
James Schannep is easily one of my favorite modern authors and this book is a great example of why that's so. For any kid who grew up wishing that they were in the Justice League, the X-Men, or maybe that they were a Jedi, this book let's you explore that in some way and as a life-long geek, I think that's beautiful. Though you don't have to be a geek to enjoy this or any of his other work!
Superpowered is fun, hilarious, and comes with a great cast of supporting characters, which is to be expected from any and all of Schannep's Click Your Poison books. I highly recommend ALL of Schannep's books. They're great and give a nostalgic feel for those of us who loved game books as kids, while adding something new to the genre.
What book can be better for all the nerds and geeks of today's society?
With all the super hero movies/animations spilling out, I was definitely excited when this book was announced! I bought it at the special discounted price and cannot be any more happier when it finally downloaded to my kindle!
I was determined to be a super hero. But on my first attempt, I was completely bested by the villain and died and unfortunate death. So, I went back and decided to choose a different superpower and go into hiding instead. Yet again, I died. Multiple times. But I did find a nice Easter egg that the author hid for all the Click Your Poison fans! I can't wait to find the other one(s)! It seems I keep dying whenever I read the Click Your Poison series. But that's just part of the fun with these books! I finally was able to defeat the villain but I want answers. I do hope I will be able to find the answers to my questions (like who is this Experi-mentor).
I'm still going through more scenarios but maybe next time I'll be a super villain. Just to see how I fare as a villain instead of a hero.
Superpowered is the 3rd book in the Click Your Poison collection. After reading both Infected and Murdered I was looking forwarded to Superpowered, I love super heroes and was excited to finally get to read this interactive book which places you in the story. I have already read it a couple of times. You can choose if you want to be a villain or a hero. You also get to choose your powers. First read through I definitely went villain, who doesn't want to unleash their inner evil side from time to time. Second read through I made amends for my deeds by playing the hero. Click Your Poison is a great collection of books. Each book is different so there is something for everyone in this collection.
SUPERPOWERED is an old-school style choose-your-own-adventure book updated to modern day technology, perfectly fitting for the current e-book world. Multiple storylines will have you coming back for more. It's a rare thing to get so much value for your purchase, but the Click Your Poison books provide endless amounts of entertainment. One CYP book is akin to purchasing three or four traditional books (well over 600 pages!). The storytelling for each path is strong and drew me in far more than I anticipated. This is not a gimmick - it's a legitimately fantastic bunch of throughlines that will have you enraptured for hours at a time. If you are looking for something new, something good, and something of value for your money, this is where your search ends. I give SUPERPOWERED by highest recommendation.
I loved, loved, loved Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was a kid. (If you're lost in this review because you don't know what they are, you should be ashamed of yourself. Google them now.) I still have several of them, and even have copies of many of the clones. The TSR Endless Quest books, being of course my favorite. I mean, cmon - Dungeons and Dragons that you can play by yourself?
So this was a fun throwback to that time. And with superpowers! (As you can probably tell by the name of the book.) I remember keeping my finger at the last choice in case I made the wrong one (and in this way checking out all the storylines) - but being an ebook, this one does it for you! You can just go back to the last choice if you die - or there's a handy index at the back that allows you to click directly to any section - if you remember the name.
This was a lot of fun. I don't know how much of my enjoyment was based on nostalgia, but either way I really liked it.
